Explosionproof is the umbrella name for many kinds of technology including flameproof, increased safety, intrinsic safety, powder filling, oil immersion, pressured, encapsulation and no spark. So flameproof is one of the most important explosionproof and flameproof is the highest cost, most complicated and supreme safety grade technology.
Flameproof certification is an official approval indicating that electrical equipment is designed and tested to prevent ignition of surrounding explosive atmospheres. It ensures the equipment meets specific safety standards, such as those set by IS/IEC, for use in hazardous areas like Zones 0, 1, 2, 20, 21, and 22.
No, Intrinsically Safe is not the same as explosion proof. Intrinsically Safe mean any products are safe enough and do no harm to the people or environment when using. Explosionproof means any products can eliminate the possibility for any explosion.
As per IS/IEC, flameproof equipment classifications include Class I (Gases and Vapors) for Zones 0, 1, and 2, and Class II (Dusts) for Zones 20, 21, and 22. Gas Groups I, IIA, IIB, and IIC further categorize the equipment based on the type of hazardous gas present.
Flameproof electrical equipment can be used in hazardous areas where explosive atmospheres of gases, vapours, or dusts are present, such as oil and gas industry, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, ship and tanker industry, mining and metal processing industry, waste water treatment industry, power generation industries. They are specifically designed for Zones 0, 1, 2, 20, 21, and 22 to prevent ignition of surrounding explosive mixtures.
Mainly when Flameproof and Increased Safety technology is applied into a flameproof fixture, the ignition source of electrical spark and high temperature could be avoided for formation of explosion to make a flameproof fixture explosionproof.
